Tibetan Girls Wearing Wild Flowers
The photo was taken in the grasslands between Sichuan & Tibet, which is one of the pathways of the historic Silk Road. The beautiful Tibetan girl with wildflowers lives on plateau between Sichuan (China) & Tibet.

Memoirs of Love
A couple of love recorded their love at the Taj Mahal, which is regarded as a symbol of love.  The Taj Mahal, which depicts Mughal Architecture influenced by Islamics architecture trends & culture. The photo also depicts love, which is the universal language that might have travel along the silk road with trade & ideas.  


Gamelan
The old man is playing the gamelan that made by himself, "Gamelan" which was founded in the 8th century in Borobodur Temple, a Buddhist Temple. Buddhism was mainly spread along the silk road

Historical Arts of Bagan
Bagan belongs to Myanmar heritage in Asia with a lot of old pagodas and cultural buildings.  It looks such beauty at the sunrise & sunset, definitely a treasure of Myanmar.  

Kong Fu on Hand
The location is at the old tea house, Peng, Chengdu, in the Sichuan province.  Chinese tea, act as the main commodities on the silk road.  Tea plays a major role in trade, which is helping to promote mutual understanding and respect between people.

Dream of the Return
Respecting and showing affection towards the elderly is a value embedded in different cultures along the silk road.  An elderly lady is embraced by her son who left Palestine in 1948 for Egypt and settled at Fadel Island, Sharkya, Nile delta. 
The School Way
During the Taliban regime, schools were closed in the most part of Afghanistan, The schools were opened up again after the interim government, After the Taliban 14 years of rule, basic school and facilities were available for students.  The photo was taken in 2016.

Kyrgyz Dancers
Kyrgyz dancers on a traditional swing Teskei Jerks, South shore, Issyk Kul Ethno Festival.  Since ancient times, traditional dance had been passed down through generations.

Fisherman at Inle
Inle Lake, Burma.  The local fisherman shares traditional skill among themselves and passed through generations..

Count your blessings
A mother & child were happily collecting eggs from their livestock of duck in the rural town of Victoria, province of Laguna.  The area surrounding Laguna de Bay is the ideal breeding ground for ducks as its abundance of freshwater.

Culture
Culture opens the sense of beauty, culture is the arts elevated to a set of beliefs.

Fun Bath
The photo depicts the happiness of childhood, the children were playing when it was raining.  The photo was taken in Mymensingh, Bangladesh.

UNESCO ENGAGEMENT FOR PROMOTING THE SILK ROAD HERITAGE 

Over the past thirty years, UNESCO had undertaken a multitude of initiatives in order to better understanding among the diverse people. 

In 1988, the international organization had launched a flagship project entitled 
" Integral Study of the Silk Road, Roads of Dialogue "
to encourage a more profound comprehension regarding intercultural dialogue and cultural interactions.  

The United Nations proclamation for the International Decade For Rapprochement of Cultures (2013-2022), for which UNESCO was designated a lead agency, offered a new opportunity to promote the achievements The Silk Road project.  As a result of the interest generated, UNESCO began its second phase of the silk road project in 2013, with a new initiative entitled
" Silk Road Online Platform. "

It serves as a global online repository, which aimed to compile and disseminate critical information and knowledge about the Silk Road shared heritage.  







Dancers at Odzun
A group of dancers was dancing at the 5th-century church of Odzun, in the Lori province of Armenia. Dancers performed th traditional dance to keep Armenian culture and pride alive for future generations.

Collect Water
In Myanmar, the woman was collecting water from the lake in the evening.  helping each other is the key element in Myanmar society.

Freedom
A child freed a bird in his house.

Over the past few decades, UNESCO and its partners have continued to develop the project, highlighting current activities and events that have been undertaken by countries along the Silk Road, and beyond.  

The 2018 international photo contest "YOUTH LENS ON THE SILK ROAD " which fits into the current context of globalization, is one of the most recent initiatives organized by UNESCO.  

Using photography as a tool of communication encouraged young people to reflect on, and capture, the shared heritage and value of the Silk Road.
